Class Memories From 1980

When I was in school we hung out at the Jackson 5&10 which later became True Value. They allowed us to go to town for lunch. Most of us that had the money would buy the chocolate covered peanuts or get a small hamburger from the Whiz or White Flash. We also hung out at the old gym in the old high school. That was a pretty nice school for its age. After school the hang out was the old drive in on Quicksand Road. It was a great time to grow up and there were none of the problems around that kids face now.

They started the Sweetheart Queen activites for the first time when I was in school. I can't remember who the first Sweetheart Queen was I think she was a Sheperd but there were two first place runnerups and two second place runnerups. Me and my best friend Leah Deaton were tied for the second place runner ups. Leah was a beautiful girl and most people thought we looked a like. Anyway we tried to.

Playing in the band was a great memory. We got to go to the ballgames free and when I was going we had a good basketball and football program. We did plenty of traveling. During my senior year me and Sandy Fraley were the drum majors and that was pretty fun except for the outfits we had to wear.

One of my favorite memories is working for Ted Edmonds who was the assistant principal. I would go and get the absentees off of the doors and would run errands for him. It was really fun and I just enjoyed helping him.

Me and now Marie Roberts Principal Darwin Noble were almost caught throwing toilet paper from the upstairs girls restroom out the window. We were almost caught by Bill Toler, but escaped just in time.

One of my favorite teachers was Mr. Hubert Herald. Me and Dana Clemons Fugate was almost always in his Biology class and he would give us a hard time because we were from Quicksand where he also lived. He gave us a test one time that was so hard that we refused to do it. We got sent to Mr. Fugate who was the guidance counselor back then. It was so funny.

The teachers during my time at BHS were great. They expected a lot out of you and we really learned a lot. One of my favorites was Mr. Malcolm Frazier, the chemistry teacher. He just was a great person! We also had Addie Murphy,Charlotte Toler, Hubert Herald, Judy Brashear, and so many other wonderful teachers.
